IOTA Unveils Key Developments in Q2 2025 with Mainnet Launch and TWIN Foundation Debut
In a significant stride for blockchain innovation, IOTA has announced the launch of its Rebased Mainnet and the debut of the TWIN Foundation, marking a transformative quarter for the organization. According to the IOTA Blog, these developments aim to enhance IOTA's capabilities as a high-performance Layer 1 blockchain and bolster its role in global digital trade.
Research & Development
The focal point of IOTA's Q2 2025 was the successful launch of the IOTA Rebased Mainnet, a project that has been in development for over a year. This upgrade positions IOTA as a competitive Layer 1 blockchain, aligning with other major networks in terms of performance and scalability. In addition to this, IOTA is exploring account abstraction to improve user experience and security, with plans to introduce programmable on-chain accounts by early Q3. The team is also working on integrating passkey authentication to streamline wallet onboarding processes.
Product Adoption
Progress in product adoption was marked by the onboarding of ObjectID, Orobo, and Impierce Technologies into the Business Innovation Program, aiming to deliver solutions on the IOTA Mainnet. Additionally, the IOTA Gas Station received an upgrade to version 0.2, allowing for more flexible transaction fee sponsorship. The IOTA Identity tool also advanced with a new beta release, facilitating decentralized identifier management without exposing users to blockchain complexities.
TWIN and TLIP Initiatives
The TWIN Foundation's official launch on May 8th in Lusaka signifies a commitment to enhancing digital trade infrastructure. Supported by organizations like TradeMark Africa and the World Economic Forum, TWIN aims to streamline processes, as seen with TLIP's success in reducing document availability times in Kenyan exports. The IOTA East Africa Web3 Innovation Summit further highlighted the application of IOTA's technology in regional trade initiatives.
Ecosystem Expansion
Efforts to expand IOTA's ecosystem included events like the APAC Moveathon and participation in Token2049 Dubai. The ecosystem team also facilitated the integration of critical infrastructure tools and wallet support, enhancing the network's security and usability. Campaigns such as the CoinGecko Learn 2 Earn initiative and the Return of IOTA campaign engaged thousands of users, boosting network activity and visibility.
Legal & Regulatory Engagement
IOTA's engagement with global policy discussions continued, with significant collaborations like joining CryptoUK and working with the Global Blockchain Business Council. These efforts aim to position IOTA as a leader in trusted digital infrastructure, highlighted by the inclusion of IOTA projects in the "101 Real-World Blockchain Use Cases Handbook".
As IOTA moves forward, the foundation remains committed to expanding its product ecosystem with a focus on real-world applications in trade and logistics, leveraging TWIN as a catalyst for broader adoption. The ongoing development of account abstraction and user onboarding enhancements are set to drive further growth and innovation.
