European Telcos Collaborate with NVIDIA to Strengthen AI Infrastructure
In a significant development for the European technology landscape, leading telecommunications companies have partnered with NVIDIA to establish robust AI infrastructure across the continent. Orange, Fastweb, Swisscom, Telefónica, and Telenor are at the forefront of this initiative, aiming to enable regional enterprises to adopt and expand AI applications securely and sustainably, according to NVIDIA.
AI Infrastructure Expansion
The collaboration was announced during NVIDIA's GTC Paris event at VivaTech, highlighting the creation of sovereign AI factories and edge infrastructure throughout Europe. This effort is intended to equip European industries with the necessary tools to train and deploy customized AI models securely, leveraging NVIDIA's comprehensive technology stack. This initiative will allow telecom operators to transcend their traditional roles and offer AI as a service, thus pioneering generative and agentic AI adoption across nations.
Orange Business' AI Solutions
Orange Business, a division of the Orange Group, has joined NVIDIA's Cloud Partner program to accelerate the development of enterprise-grade AI solutions. The Live Intelligence platform, part of Orange Business, empowers companies to securely deploy generative AI at scale via the Orange Business Cloud Avenue platform, which is built on NVIDIA's high-performance infrastructure. This development is set to transform operational processes and introduce new revenue streams for telecommunications companies.
Telenor's Sustainable AI Efforts
Telenor has announced the expansion of Norway's first sovereign AI infrastructure to meet growing demand. The company is planning to build a new AI data center powered entirely by renewable energy, contributing surplus energy back to the grid. This initiative supports Norway's mission for secure, sovereign, and sustainable AI development, with applications ranging from public sector digital services to industrial automation.
Swisscom's AI Innovations
Swisscom has introduced GenAI Studio, a platform that allows enterprises to develop and operate AI agents rapidly and securely. The new services are hosted on Swisscom's sovereign AI factory, utilizing NVIDIA's DGX SuperPOD for scaling capacity to meet Switzerland's increasing demand for AI services.
Telefónica's Edge AI Deployment
In Spain, Telefónica is piloting edge AI infrastructure to bring advanced computing closer to data generation sites. This initiative involves deploying hundreds of NVIDIA GPUs to ensure AI services are delivered with low latency and strong privacy protections, thereby supporting key sectors such as government and financial services.
Fastweb's Language Model Innovation
Fastweb has developed MIIA, one of Italy's first language models for generative AI applications, using its NVIDIA DGX AI supercomputer. This effort represents a major step forward in supporting AI innovation within the country.
